KUCHING – The Catholic Welfare Services has set up the Home of Peace, a caring and safe home for the elderly poor. The Home is located along Jalan Landeh, neighbouring the Semenggoh Nature Reserve, thus allowing a very serene and tranquil living environment.
The Home has rooms which can house 30-35 residents. Although the Home may sound small now, there are plans of expansion on the five-acre piece of land where the Home is situated. It has also has a dining hall, kitchen and an activity hall for the usage of daily activities for the residents.
The Home of Peace is now ready for occupation. For admission, any destitute person over 60 years is eligible to be accepted irrespective of race, religion or gender. All applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Panel who will make the final decision to reject or approve any applications. Admission is free.
The Home has been built from the wonderful generosity of the public. To maintain the Home as a charitable institution for the residents, the Catholic Welfare Services is appealing for cash donations which will be tax-exempted or donations in kind. Please address your cheque to the ‘Catholic Welfare Services’ or you can obtain a donation envelope from your parish or the Catholic Welfare Services office for annual contributions. Donations in kind can be donated through the Home or the Catholic Welfare Services office.
