SIBU – A special meeting was called by the higher council of the Legion of Mary on 8 December to discuss the formation of a comitium in Sibu.
Present at the meeting were Bishop Dominic Su, Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Hii, representatives of the Legion of Mary from Singapore Senatus and from Kuching Comitium, and officers of the five curiae in Sibu.
At the meeting, Josephine Leong, Correspondent from Singapore Senatus, read out the letter from Concilium Legionis Mariae in Dublin (highest council of the Legion of Mary) supporting the formation of a higher council in Sibu. After some discussion, Bishop Su gave his approval to the formation of Sibu Comitium which will comprise the four Chinese-speaking curiae in Sibu. The date for the inauguration has been fixed for 9 May.
At present, the curiae in Sibu report to Kuching Comitium. Following the elevation of Mother of Good Counsel Curia to Sibu Comitium, the new Comitium will report directly to Singapore Senatus.
This is an important milestone for the Legion of Mary in Sarawak as it reflects the maturity of the Legion in Sibu to take on the role of a higher council for their region.
