UNVEILING... Archbishop John Ha officially opened the Chapel of the Holy Family in Kpg Podam (Bau) under St Stephen’s Parish on 28 December (Feast of the Holy Family) in the presence of about 150 people. Tihs was followed by Mass which was concelebrated by Fr Patrick Heng (Rector of the Parish). The renovation and extension had been completed in November.
A FEW WORDS... Msgr William Sabang giving his address during a farewell dinner for him and Sr Anna Juwin at St Jude’s Parish, Bunan Gega on 28 December. Msgr William will be attached to the Mother Mary Priests’ Retirement Home and Sr Anna transferred to St Rita’s Convent, Bau.

REUNION...About 255 members of Mary Immaculate Curia (English-speaking praesidia under the Legion of Mary) in Kuching gathered at a local restaurant on 14 December for the Annual General Reunion. This is the yearly social function of the Legion of Mary held on a date close to the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (8 December) when members meet for fellowship and fun. Besides enjoying a dinner together, Legionaries also put up entertainment items and played games. The guest of honour at the function was Archbishop John Ha.
YEAR-END SALE... The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP), Conference of St Joseph (Kuching) organised a Thrift Shop Jumble Sale on 7 December at the Parish Gallery. A variety of items was on sale including second-hand clothing, bags, household items, shoes, books and magazines. The sale was well patronised by many parishioners who came looking for good bargains. Proceeds from the sale amounting to RM2,200 will be used to fund various SSVP activities to help the poor and needy.
MIGRANT WORKERS PREPARE SPIRITUALLY...In preparation for the celebration of Christmas, the Legion of Mary organised two Advent Penitential Services for migrant workers. On 6 December, Indonesian migrant workers from five factories in the Sejingkat area (Kuching) gathered at one factory for Advent reflection and Confessions. During the fellowship which followed, Fr Albert Jacobse and Fr Richard Ng distributed Christmas gifts to the children there. A similar Penitential Service was held in St Joseph’s Cathedral (Kuching) on 14 December in which local migrants and foreign migrants from India, Indonesia and the Philippines participated.
MUKAH SINGS OF CHRIST’S BIRTH...The Mukah Catholic Youth Association (MCYA) of St Peter & St Paul Church organised carolling around Mukah town from 9-18 December. The areas covered by the Carolling Group were Kpg Bedanga, the Old Ferry point and the vicinity of Mukah Town including nearby housing estates and villages.
CHOIR COMPETITION... A choir sings Christmas carols in Dewan Tebedu. The Christmas Choir Competition was organised by St Jude’s Parish (Bunan Gega) on 20 December in aid of the new Tebedu Sub-parish Centre.
