KUCHNG – A thanksgiving Mass was offered up at the Carmelite Church on 27 September by Vincentians from all conferences in the Archdiocese of Kuching to commemorate the Feast of St Vincent de Paul. Fr Simon Poh presided over the Mass for the Vincentians, together with their spouses, children and some friends. All in all, there were more than 80 persons who participated in the feastday mass.
At the Mass, Vincentians offered up thanksgiving prayers for the many blessings received in the past years. Petition prayers were offered for the blessing of the clergy, for more zealous members to join the Society of St Vincent De Paul (SSVP), for all benefactors, supporters and all SSVP adoptees from the five conferences in the Archdiocese. The prayer of the Vincentian Family was also recited by all after the petition prayers.
In his homily, Fr Simon Poh encouraged Vincentians to carry on the good works for the poor and needy. He cited a few testimonies from some foreign CHOICE members who had the opportunity of visiting some adoptees of the Society in Kuching recently. In one of the testimonies, a CHOICE member mentioned that he was surprised to find that there are still many people living in slums in Kuching city in the 21st century. The CHOICE members were really impressed with the SSVP assistance rendered to the poor. Fr Simon encouraged the Vincentians to offer up to the Lord Jesus any problems or burdens they may face in the course of their work.
SSVP members from the Conference of the Holy Spirit (Lundu) came with their guitars and provided beautiful music for the singing of the hymns of praise at Mass. After the thanksgiving Mass, all adjourned to the Arhbishop’s Hall for a fellowship lunch.
