SERIAN – This year, the Parish of St Theresa celebrated its patronal feast from 26-28 September.
The opening Mass on 26 September, presided by the Rector, Fr Augustine Jepy, marked the start of the three-day festivities. During the homily, Fr Felix Au encouraged the congregation to follow the little way of St Theresa of the Child Jesus; this required spiritual maturity, total trust, love and generosity to the Lord.
Following the Mass, the faithful headed to the Church Hall for fellowship and to support the annual fund-raising sales. They also enjoyed the performances of the Gospel song and traditional dance competitions.
One of the highlights of this annual celebration is the candle-light procession of the statue of St Theresa around the town of Serian on the evening of Day Two. Good weather permitted the faithful to public display their faith as they recited the Rosary and sang hymns to Our Lady during the 40-minute procession. Sales and competitions from the first day continued until late at night.
The final day of the celebrations began with the morning Mass presided by Archbishop John Ha. The festivities that followed lasted until 2pm. This year the Gospel song and traditional dance competitions were won by the teams from Kpg Tebakang and Kpg Jenan respectively.
The Parish of St Theresa is grateful to God and to everyone who supported this year’s celebration to make it successful and memorable.
