KUCHING – On 19 September, 39 students of the English Section of the Sunday School at Blessed Sacrament Parish (Stampin) received the Sacrament of Confirmation during the Mission Sunday Mass in the Church. The Sacrament was administered by Msgr William Sabang to students ranging from Form 3 to college levels, including two foreign students from Nigeria.
During his homily, Msgr William highlighted the “launching of the Christian mission worldwide” in the command given by Jesus, “Go out to the whole world, proclaim the Good News to all creation” (Matt xx). He asserted that everyone, through the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation, has the responsibility to take part in the Christian duty to spread the Gospel wherever possible.
Quoting from the Message of Pope Benedict for Mission Sunday, Msgr William said, “Even in the face of growing difficulties, Christ’s mandate [to spread the Good News] remains a priority and no reason can justify a slowing down or stagnation in the Church’s missionary activity.”
Concluding his homily, Msgr William challenged the candidates for Confirmation, and the larger congregation gathered, to respond generously and seriously with a “heart of charity for mission”.
From 19-21 September, the Sunday School and Emmaus Community co-organised a Life in the Spirit Seminar for the newly-confirmed.
