KUCHING – The 6th Conference of Catholic Women of East Malaysia concluded with a dinner on 20 August at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre. It was well-attended by the delegates with their family members and friends, who were entertained with several cultural and dance items presented by some of the parishes from Sabah and Sarawak. They also joined in a lively sing-along session.
Archbishop John Ha commended the Catholic Ladies Guild of the Archdiocese of Kuching for inviting the women church leaders of the various denominations in keeping with the Conference’s theme ‘Towards a caring generation’ and in the spirit of oneness in the body of Christ. The theme also reflects the Church’s concern in bringing up the young to be more caring, guided and nurtured with the right values, while living in a world of tension and violence.
The Archbishop also announced that he would be stepping down as the spiritual advisor of the Conference of Catholic Women of East Malaysia. His replacement will be Fr John Wong from Sabah.
In his welcoming speech the organising chairperson, Catherine Liom, thanked everyone for making the Conference a success. She hoped that the delegates found some pointers to take back to help to start more caring families.
The evening ended with the handing over of the pendant to the next host, the Catholic Ladies Guild of Sibu.
