KUCHING – The Archdiocese of Kuching had decided to run a three-year training programme to train her own full-time Catechists. The programme kicked off in 2006 with eight participants enrolling. But half way through the year, three dropped out for various personal reasons. The remaining five completed the course in August.
At a simple ‘graduation’ ceremony on 29 August, Msgr William Sabang thanked the course participants for so willingly answering the call from God to work as full-timers in the vineyard of the Lord. He also reminded them to be responsible workers and to apply the skills that they had learned and also to live spiritual lives. He also urged them to be good moral examples to the people they serve and to turn to the Bible for their reference.
To round off the event, Msgr William also informed the catechists that the Church is aware of their family commitments and the rise in prices of the general commodities. So to conclude, he announced a piece of good news, that is, the Church is seriously planning to increase their salary with child-support allowances, hopefully by January 2009.
