I am glad to share with you the good news that the construction of the Home of Peace Phase 1A – a home for the elderly poor undertaken by the Catholic Welfare Services (CWS) – has been completed. It was handed over to the CWS on 20 May 2008.
The Home, owned by the CWS, will be operated with the assistance of the Sisters of St Francis of Sarawak to provide daily care for its residents.
As a Home operated on the basis of Christian faith and love, it seeks to make a difference by aiming to lead its elderly residents to experience God’s love for them and thus face their old age not only with serenity and dignity but also with confidence that they can continue to grow and commit themselves to living meaningfully for God.
Now that Phase 1A of the Home has been completed, the CWS has to look for funds to take care of its residents on a daily basis. I support their efforts to seek these funds through:
Sponsorship @ RM500 to RM5000 or more per year is solicited to cover the cost of the day-to-day running of the Home. Any balance from the total sum received per year will be accumulated for the future expansion of the Home. All donations are tax-exempt.
b) Friends of ‘HOPE’ (Home of PEACE)
Smaller sums from Friends of ‘HOPE’ can be donated through envelopes and dropped in the Sunday collection bags throughout the year. Tax-exempt receipts will be issued upon request.
Volunteers will be needed to assist with the running of the Home. Such assistance will be undertaken as a Church Community Project. Notices calling for it will be put up in due course.
As I lend my support to the CWS in their efforts, I make a strong appeal to one and all to contribute towards the very worthy cause for the elderly poor. May the joint efforts of the CWS, the daily care-givers and financial donors, put in out of love, help the residents of the Home to experience God’s love, fill them with hope, and live their old age meaningfully and with dignity.
May God in turn bless all generous benefactors and care-givers in ways he sees best for each one of them.
Thank you in advance for your generous response and support – through which we look forward to a Home with a difference.
Yours sincerely in Christ,
Archbishop John Ha
