KOTA PADAWAN – St Ann’s Parish witnessed a number of events in December. On 15 December, the Parish played host for the first time for the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (APC) Executive Board Meeting held at St Lukas’ Centre. Friar Gerard Victor, OFM was on hand to welcome the President, Archbishop John Ha, and Board members.
On 16 December, Archbishop John Ha officially installed Friar Gerard as rector of St Ann’s Parish. The installation ceremony was witnessed by hundreds of parishioners including the parish councillors and village chapel committee members.
This installation came about as the outgoing rector, Friar Joseph Goh, OFM was offered a three-year study leave to take up sacramental theology in California, USA.
In the evening, the parishioners gathered once again at St Ann’s Baruk for a welcome & farewell ceremony culminating in a sumptuous community dinner. The evening kicked off with a welcoming speech by the parish council chairman, Robert Josem.
In his speech, Friar Gerard thanked Friar Joseph Goh for his dedication and commitment to bring about development in St Ann. He asked the staff, councillors and parishioners to continue to render him the same support and to be patient as this was his first appointment as rector of a parish. He also welcomed Friar Joseph Lee who had recently returned to St Ann after undergoing a successful two-year course in Mandarin in Taiwan.
Friar Joseph Goh in his speech admitted that the role as rector was not an easy task, prayers, cooperation and contribution. He asked for all to continue to pray for him.
Before dinner, an Iban Karaoke VCD, entitled ‘Ngarap ke Padi Lebat Berbuah’, was launched. The VCD project was a joint effort of the St Ann’s Complex Committee and Golden Pearl Recording Studio. Profits from the sale of the VCD will be donated to the complex fund. On hand to promote the sale were the artistes and owners of the recording studio.
Live rendition of songs by the singers enlivened the evening that could easily be have been gloomy as parishioners bade farewell to Friar Joseph Goh.
