KPG SAMPUN KELILI, Padawan – About 40 children from Kpg Sampun Kelili in Asajaya were given the opportunity to share in the joy and fun of Christmas when they took part in a Children’s Christmas party held at the village community hall on 15 December.
The Catholic Church Committee (CCC) of the kampung organised the party for Catholic and non-Catholic children there. The Catholic community there is a relatively new community and there is a plan to build a chapel in the village in two years time.
During the party, the children took part in a few games; prizes were given away to winners and later gifts were presented to all the children. The children, parents and organising committee members also sang Christmas songs at the beginning of the programme to add colour and meaning to the joyful occassion.
Chairman of the CCC, Dominic Chali, in his speech said the Committee had resolved to make the event a yearly activity and thanked the parishioners of Holy Trinity Church (Kenyalang Park) for donating the gifts.
He expressed hope that the project to the build the Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption which comes under the pastoral care of St Ann’s parish,, (Kota Padawan) would materialise as planned with the help of generous Catholics from the churches in Kuching. He thanked all those who had assisted in collecting and contributing to the building funds so far.
Also present at the party were the Penghulu, Sampai ak Mindon, Sylvester Juan (Advisor of the CCC) and Franky Akang (CCC Vice-chairman).
