KUCHING – In a simple ceremony during the Eucharistic celebration on 11 February, Fr Richard Ng was installed as the new Rector of St Peter’s College, the major seminary of the Archdiocese.
Presided by Archbishop John Ha and fellow priests of the Archdiocese, Fr Richard made the profession of faith and took the oath of fidelity in assuming the office of Rector of St Peter’s College.
In his homily, the Archbishop reminded all the seminarians present of the importance of prayer in their formation as future priests. He remarked that the appointment of Fr Richard is a significant milestone for St Peter’s College as he is the first ‘son’ or graduate of the College to be installed as rector.
The Mass also marked the commencement of the new academic year of the College which sees a total of 31 seminarians from the five dioceses in the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak. Three full-time formators are serving in the College.
When asked how he felt about his new appointment, Fr Richard said that it was a great honour and privilege to be entrusted with the task of forming future priests for the region and pledged to do his best.
