KUCHING – Franciscan Sr Natasia Tay made her first profession to the religious life on 1 April at a Mass presided by Archbishop John Ha and eight priests. Sr Adriana Tiong, the Superior General of the Sisters of St Francis of Sarawak, represented the Congregation in receiving Sr Natasia’s first profession.
The ceremony held at the Chapel of the Convent of Mary Immaculate (Padungan) was attended by the Sisters, family members of Sr Natasia, seminarians and some friends.
In his homily, the Archbishop reminded the newly professed Sr Natasia to live Christ’s commandment of love. He also expressed his gratitude to the family of Sr Natasia for their generosity in giving her to the Church, even though many of them are not of the Christian faith.
During the profession ceremony, Sr Natasia donned the white habit and veil of a religious Sister before making her profession in front of the Superior General. She was also given a crucifix to wear. The profession concluded with Sr Natasia being welcomed into the Franciscan community by Sr Adriana and her councillors. The first profession was followed by a fellowship dinner at the Convent hall.
Sr Natasia, who comes from a non-Christian family, worked in a bank for some years before she joined the Congregation. She is currently waiting for her posting.
