The little girl next door sings every morning to herself. I can hear her clearly from my room. She’s about three maybe, the shrill little baby tunes tug at my heartstrings. She brings a smile to my lips. Of course she would; I have a mother’s heart. The mere sound of her voice catapults me to a protective and nurturing mode.
I have a suspicion it’s a little like how Mother Mary feels each time any of us ‘sings’. We may not even be singing to her necessarily but surely the mere sound of our childish attempts to articulate a prayer brings warmth to her heart too.
It’s the month of May. Mothers are celebrated. Motherhood is held in high esteem. It was also World Communications Day on 4 May. Communication is all about human connections, initiating, maintaining and conveying messages. The little girl’s voice communicates her innocence, purity and sheer joy of living. Whatever we choose to say, do or sing in life, may it be from a heart that’s that pure.
