KUCHING – Beginning on 21 March (Good Friday), Blessed Sacrament Parish (Stampin) started with a Novena to the Divine Mercy in preparation for the Feast of Divine Mercy which fell on 30 March, the 2nd Sunday of Easter.
On Divine Mercy Sunday itself, Rector Fr Lawrence Chua specially blessed and incensed the large picture of the Divine Mercy that hangs prominently in the Church. The ceremony was simple with the Divine Mercy prayers but very beautiful and touching.
Later that afternoon, there was a special hour of adoration supported by the faithful who turned out in large numbers to adore the Lord on this Feast.
Exactly a month later on 21 April, the Parish commenced the Novena to the Holy Spirit with a three-fold petition. The first was in preparation for the Bob Canton Healing Crusade (7-9 May), the second was for Pentecost and the third for Corpus Christi, which is the Parish Feast.
For each event the petition before the Lord was the same – to ask for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit for the people of God, not only in the Parish, but also in the Archdiocese of Kuching and the world at large. The faithful gathered in faith and expectation as did the early Church before the first Pentecost, awaiting God to give outpouring of the Holy Spirit and bring about the conversion of many hearts.
