KPG EMPASAK, Serian – Archbishop John Ha declared open and blessed the Chapel of the Holy Family on 20 April. This was followed by a Mass presided by the Archbishop and Fr Augustine Jepy, Rector of St Theresa’s Parish (Serian).
Kpg Empasak is an Iban kampong of ten doors, with a population of 64. For the occasion, about 160 people were present, coming from the kampong, surrounding kampongs and Kuching.
It was a happy atmosphere with traditional dances, and music from gongs and a band to entertain the faithful gathered there. There was a lot of excitement when fire crackers were let off after the ribbons were cut by Archbishop John Ha.
Many words of thanks came from the Archbishop, the Rector, the Tua Kampong and a representative from the group of volunteers instrumental in getting this project started. It was a collective effort from the villagers, donors in cash and kind, and volunteers who came from different religious backgrounds.
Most of all they thanked God for everything, for guiding everyone involved to do his work and to safely complete this project. The presence of the Archbishop and priests who came during the progress of the construction boosted the morale of those involved.
