PLENTONG, Johor – Thirty-five ‘young’ priests converged at MAJODI in the Melaka-Johor Diocese from 31 March to 4 April for their annual young priests’ gathering.
The priests, all who have been ordained within the past five years, came from the various Arch/dioceses in Malaysia and Singapore.
Bishop Paul Tan SJ, who was on hand to welcome them, expressed that the priests would take the opportunity to deepen their friendship.
On the second day, Fr Clarence Dass gave a session on Sexual Maturity. He noted that human sexuality is a gift from God and must be looked after in their service as priests. It must be realised that priests are also men, with feelings and needs. What is important is that we need to know who we are and what our responsibilities are.
The priests were unanimous in their agreement that as shepherds, they need to foster relationships with everyone irrespective of race or creed, but there must be limitations.
There was also time for the priests to relax and have fun. A sight-seeing tour to Kluang and Melaka was also arranged.
The gathering ended with the consensus to have the 2009 Young Priests’ Gathering in the Diocese of Penang.
