BETONG – A group of Catholic golfers organised a fund-raising event for the construction of a new church building in Betong, a town approximately 260 km from Kuching under Our Lady Queen of Peace (Sri Aman).
The theme of the event, ‘Tee-Up Betong Church’, played on the meaning of the words to reflect the game of golf and the purpose of the event, which is to build up the faith community in that area.
A total of RM 68,121 was raised thanks to the generosity in time, talent and resources of sponsors, golfers, family and friends. Fr Martin Wong, Rector of the Parish expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed in one way or another and prayed that their families be blessed. A special acknowledgment went to the Kuching Golf Club (KGS) for the use of their facilities.
An estimated sum of RM 1.7 million is needed for the whole church building project. To this end, there are plans to hold a bi-monthly fund-raising event.
