KUCHING – The St Joseph’s Parish 4th Alpha Course started on 25 March with a total of 98 people. The buildup by the series of talks by Nicky Gumbel led the participants to a weekend away experience at the Catholic Memorial and Pilgrimage Centre (CMPC), Mount Singgai, Bau from 10 – 11 May.
The Stations of the Cross was the initial experience felt by many as journeying with the Lord. The DVD talks on ‘Who is the Holy Spirit?’, ‘What does the Holy Spirit do?’ and ‘How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?’ blended perfectly into this day of the Feast of Pentecost. Fellowship was aplenty as participants shared during lunch.
After this, Augustine Tan gave a summary of Nicky’s talks before he conducted the Baptism of the Holy Spirit for all who wanted to receive the gift of tongues, followed by ‘The Visitation of the Holy Spirit’. All who came forward ‘rested’ under the power of the Holy Spirit. Everything went on in an orderly and peaceful manner.
Participants shared their personal experiences about the wonders of the Holy Spirit’s power. There was a sense of awe on the love of God given freely to those who sought him with all their hearts. Fr Simon Poh presided over the Mass with the participants and was on hand to pray for them.
“No one left the CMPC empty handed,” said the course administrator Johnny Kon.
