SERIAN – The parishioners of Serian experienced an outreach activity from the Bread of Life Catholic Charismatic Covenant Community through the first part of a Life in the Spirit Seminar from 21-22 June.
Held in the new St Ann’s Church, Kpg Kakai (Serian), about 35 participants attended the Seminar which was jointly organised by the Community and Kpg Kakai (St Ann’s Parish). The participants consisted of the Parish councillors, and students and teachers of SMK Serian.
The Life in the Spirit Seminar is a series of enriching talks which covers ‘God’s Love’, ‘Salvation’, ‘New Life’, ‘Baptised in the Holy Spirit’, ‘Receiving God’s Gift’, ‘Inner Healing’ and ‘Growth and Transformation’. These talks are usually enhanced by personal life testimonies where people share how God has touched the various areas of their lives in different ways.
An Inner Healing session is conducted after the talk that introduces it. This is when participants are led in prayer to invite the Lord to walk back with them into their past and heal their emotional and spiritual hurts through forgiveness.
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit follows the talk ‘Baptised in the Holy Spirit’. During this session, the participants are encouraged to ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit in order to serve the Lord more effectively.
Through group discussions and refreshment breaks, the participants and facilitators are able to get to know each other. Fellowship is always a good way to build relationship with one another, especially for the purpose of building a community for emotional and prayer support.
At the end of the Seminar, participants learn to practise the gifts which they have received and continue to grow in the Lord through ‘Growth and Transformation’. It is important for them not to fall back into their old way of life as they have already acquired the new life in the Spirit. Through this new life, the participants are urged to serve the Lord and witness to his blessing within their own community and also to the people around them.
With the Mass presided by the Spiritual Director of the Community, Fr Augustine Jepy, and the exuberant praise and worship sessions led by the Iuventus Single Adult Ministry, the participants enjoyed the weekend apart from finding themselves enriched by the talks and touched by the testimonies presented during the Seminar. The participants look forward to the second part of the seminar which will be in July.
