SERIAN – On 25 May, the Parishes of St Jude (Bunan Gega) and St Theresa (Serian) hosted a thanksgiving dinner at Dewan Masyarakat Serian in conjunction with the Sacerdotal Silver Jubilee of Msgr William Sabang and a fund-raising project for the construction of a new Catholic church in Bandar Mutiara, Tebedu.
The dinner was well attended by members of the community, and included Rectors of the two parishes, Fr Augustine Jepy (St Theresa’s) and Fr Jerome Juleng (St Jude’s), Fr Joseph Chai (also a silver jubilarian), Fr Christopher Laden, Fr James Meehan and Fr Felix Au.
In his speech, the Chairman of the organising committee, Alban Bong, welcomed and thanked parishioners of both St Jude and St Theresa for participating in the thanksgiving dinner. He invited everyone to join in the festivities marking the 40th anniversary of St Jude in August.
Fr Augustine Jepy, in his address, thanked St Jude’s Parish for inviting St Theresa’s Parish to join in organising the dinner since the jubiliarian hails from Serian. Fr Jerome later thanked friends of both parishes for their support. He further appealed for generous donations towards the building fund of the Holy Cross Church in Tebedu.
Msgr William Sabang, in his speech, welcomed and acknowledged Fr Joseph Chai for his presence and thanked the organisers of the dinner event. He shared his experience in different pastoral assignments in various parishes and in the seminary. He also urged all parents to unselfishly offer their children for the service of God.
The occasion was livened with traditional dances and sponsored songs. The function concluded with a blessing by Msgr William Sabang.
